Being a bit busy this week, I will be doing quite a few reviews
as quickies (pellet reviews). I had thought of doing one for this one too, even
more so because of the ’52 at 26’ I will be doing for Silver Bullet Comicbooks,
(one of over half a dozen reviewers). Still, seeing as this is a special issue
(halfway) point for the series, decided to spend a little extra time and do my
usual day-by-day take. So, here goes.
Day 1: The Question/Montoya and Black Adam/Isis plots finally take a
break from each other, and as expected the separation is at much friendlier
terms than their first meeting. While Isis, BA and Osiris head to, well, to
wherever they are off to next, Vic and Renee set out on the next leg of their
adventure, one that brings in a very important character from Vic’s life,
Richard Dragon. A close friend and former teacher to Vic, the Dragon is now
Montoya’s teach too.
Day 2: More of the John Henry-Natasha family drama and as expected it has
more of the same old, same old. Only, unlike the privacy or at most small crowds
of their previous ‘public dirty linen washings’, this time around it
takes places on National television, with none other than Jack Ryder and his
‘You Are Wrong’ TV show. (For more on ‘You Are Wrong’, check out ‘The
Creeper’ mini)
Day 4: Throw money, buy help. That is what this day brings in. With her
husband kidnapped, Lady Sivana donates Twenty Million Dollars to Kahndaq’s
Children Hospital and in return of getting the Black Marvel family for dinner,
all to request their assistance in finding her hubby. Along the way not only do
we get to see the Sivana Family but also the initial brickwork for Osiris’s
stint on the Teen Titans.
Day 4 (Oolong Island): Nothing much happening here this day. Magnus
finally getting ‘with the program’ and a new entrant, one Dr. (Ms./Mrs.) Cale.
That’s about it.
As for the origins, this one was even lamer than a few of the previous ones, and
no, this time around this comment has nothing to do with my ‘Don’t Give A
Hoot’ about the characters in question, Hawkman and Hawkgirl.
Conclusion: The last few weeks have been sort of *lulls* and this
one was no different. There is a lot of build-up taking place here, a LOT. If
only, there was a bit action too. (That bumbling New JLA does not count.) RATING:
7/10 (Almost 7.5)
