Infinite Crisis Secret Files: As far as the ‘Secret’ in this
issue of the ‘Secret Files’ is concerned, it has been pretty much out there for
quite some time now. However, that being said, it is a nice way to collect it
all in one place and tell the story of the three concerned parties. I say
parties, because the pair of Kal-L and Lois Lane (Both of Earth-2) are in
essence even more a ‘unit’ than their Earth-I counterparts (Kal-El and Lois
Lane). They truly seem, not only to be in love with each, but made for each
other…as Kal-L says/thinks ‘One look and he knew that some she would be his.’
The artwork, although a bit confusing in a few places (character ‘age’ wise),
comes across as, most importantly, able to convey the emotions properly and
clearly. I especially like the ‘teen bordering on adult’ look that Superboy
Prime is given, both in his life pre-COIS (Crisis of Infinite Earths) and his
‘beating’ actions on the dimensional barrier and their subsequent effects on the
continuity of the only remaining earth. Even in all that, the changing faces of
Donna Troy (Wonder Girl, Troia, Darkstar, etc) are my favorite.
Apart from recounting the story of these four characters, IC SF also ties up on
a couple of loose ends that the other series/minis have gathered up along the
way. Even for anyone who hasn’t read the COIS miniseries, and taking this four
as the survivors of something that happening in the past, SF is able to explain
them with ease and clarity. Even the ‘bad’ people/parties (Alex Luthor of
Earth-3 and Superboy Prime), have their own stories told in such a emotive way
that the readers are able to empathize with them, if not almost move over to
their side in support of their ‘nefarious’ actions.
I would like to go deeper into this but that would lead to revealing spoilers
(well, even more), hence I am stopping here.
Conclusion: Lois & Kal-L. Million times better couple than Cassandra
& Conner. Three thumbs up!
RATING: 9/10 (almost 9.5)
