Try as I might, I can’t seem to work out a ‘proper’ full
detailed review for this series. Whenever I try, I tend to leave out one thing
or the other…each issue is that packed and that fast paced.
Thankfully enough, it doesn’t appear as if that will be the case here, not
because there was anything lacking but because the majority of the issue was
towards dealing (and closing) the main plotline that this series has had…post
OYL, that of Dr. Psycho and his case. Well, the case is finished and the verdict
is in and all seems to be well…for Psycho. Heck, he even manages to get free,
courtesy of his pals over at Society HQ.
Once free, you would think that he’d make a quick getaway, but no, he has to
earn his name and therefore like any good villain he gets on with his blowhardy
and ultimately doomed speech-torture-well, whatever he does. He even manages to
get Kate’s secret…the one that tells him that she’s the Manhunter.
As for Kate, already not feeling particularly trippy, especially with the sense
of being the odd man (woman) out she has been having whenever she thinks/sees
her ex and his new life (wife and kid) and how her own son, Ramsey interacts
with them, she blows her top and gives Psycho what’s been coming to him…though I
don’t know how this will play out in the Gawd knows how many series and minis
he’s appearing in.
There is also a development on the whole serial killer subplot and although not
definitive, it also looks set to be wrapped up with the next issue. After all,
prior to the extra five issues, it was the next one that was going to be the
last one for this amazing well written and gorgeously illustrated but sadly low
selling title. (Manhunter #23 sold only 15,542 nos.)
Conclusion: So when’s the next issue coming up? RATING:
9/10 (Almost 9.5)
