SuperGirl #9

Reviewed by: Bruce Logan

T'is the week for boring horrible stories, and although not as bad the Ultimates Annual #2 over at Marvel (that just makes you want to bash your own brains in and just before you konk off, physically pull the memory that you even read it), this sham manages to hold its own.

Whether in the ‘present time’ scenes or flashbacks with Power Girl or any of the other guest appearances/places, there is no actual plot here, except to further DC’s efforts at giving the ‘S’ shield some bad-girl-spice. Sadly, they end up in flinging cow-pies on it…fresh right from the Kents’ farm in Smallville, Kansas.

As for the new man in the life of the ‘Lost Who**…Daughter of Kyrpton’, if it turns out that it the guy who showed up here, I can’t say that I will be all that surprised, for not even three days ago, I had tossed out his name in a discussion thread…though at that time I didn’t think that the TPTB would actually use him. All I have to say for this mystery man, I hope your ‘boomerangs’ help you when during her next ‘Crazy time of the Series’, you find not only your ‘family jewels’ but also your life in danger. Oh, and showing her as smoking, on top of dressed as she was...great move. Lets not leave even a shadow of a doubt about her 'status' (and maybe even night-time vocation.)

This was my last issue with this series and was only bought with a hope that it would give sort of understanding and closure to the craziness of the last arc. Sorry, to say, no help there either…except for an effort to show (once again for the nth time) how bad Kara is. Does DC seriously market this series/character to younger female readers? With all the smoking, butt shots, sexual inuendoes and what not, I don't think that very many parent will allow their children near...let alone read this. In fact, why not just stamp a 'Mature' rating on it and let it all hang out.

Conclusion: If SGirl wasn’t enough of pain-in-the-head by herself, we have another one to fill in the spaces....Who else but ‘Part-time Grave-robber and full-time Whiner’ Cassandra Sandsmark, Wonder Girl beta.

RATING: 5/10
