After the last mission (issue #8-9), this month’s Hunter Killer
is a much more sedate affair. There isn’t any killing, double crossing or
explosions, well, apart from the ones that are a usual affair of Moringstar’s
political games.
The main story here revolves around Ellis and the new character, Echo. A child
of another ultra-sapien couple, Echo is the genetic opposite of Ellis i.e. while
Ellis is a ‘receiver’, Echo ‘broadcasts’. Anyways, whatever that coupling will
entail, both Ellis and Echo fall for each other, hard and fast, and just in time
too. Not too happy about her charge pulling a disappearing act, Samantha Argent
tracks him (and Echo) down, complete with an armed to the gills contingent in
tow.
On his second issue, after opening with the last one, artist Kenneth Rocafort
seems to be finding his footing. Although the characters still seem a bit odd as
compared to their earlier depictions because of Rocafort’s slimming them down a
bit (especially the faces of the female characters), the detailing, as extensive
as the previous issue, takes cares of that. What doesn’t quite work still is the
coloring. Although acceptable enough on their own, the colors of issue, aren’t
quite as striking the ones before, and that includes last month's issue (with
colorists Steve Firchow and Studio F) Conclusion:
What is the deal with Morningstar’s lady friend? I suspect that maybe she is
playing the player i.e. Morningstar. Looking forward to the answer to this
mystery. RATING: 7/10
