A Wham-Bam, Blow ‘em up to High Heaven (or in this case, to Low
Hell) all-out rock‘em-sock ‘em Shooting-McShoot I could go on finale. That is
what we have here as the final and just in time for Christmas issue of this
shamelessly hilarious mini series. For a story like this, it is not the ending
that is the most important part but rather the journey taken to it…and what a
journey it has been.
From his drunken days (after Mrs. Claus got done in) to his ending as a Dirty
Harry Santa, Ol’ St. Nick comes a long way, and all thanks to a young boy and
his faith in him (and in the festival that he has come to represent/be tied into
so much). The bad guys and especially their leader get what is coming to them
(even if the ‘tree-top star replacement’ bit did seem just that bit far
fetched).
Just as great the writing is, I don’t think it alone could have taken the story
to such level without the accompanying artwork. It might not have the most
polished visuals out there, it does have one thing in loads...character i.e.
depth. Moreover, that snazzy style wouldn’t have been suited to this
Post-Apocalyptic setting. Conclusion: I just hope
that Image doesn’t go Marvel’s route in exploiting-to-death a novel-niche
concept (as they are going to do with the ‘Marvel Zombies’). RATING: 8/10
(Almost 8.5)
