Even though there isn’t much of an actual story
in this ‘special’, it is more than enough to justify the 99 Cent
treatment, (especially compared to Marvel’s $5 treatment for
CW: Initiative).
Even though the main character only appears towards the end,
this special serves it purpose of setting up the country of Val
Verde, its socio-political situation and its major players, and
all of that in just ten pages. As for the remaining, three are
devoted to a quick recap of Sheena and her seventy year old
history. Man, this character is even older than DC’s big boys,
Batman and Superman. I for one sure as hell didn’t know that.
As for what sort of a country Val Verde is, well, think of a
generic dictator run country, add a dollop of Monte Carlo, a
couple of Las Vegas (the casinos) and New York (the night life)
and to top it off give it a Fox News style media before running
it all through a giant mixer. There, that should give you a
general idea of it. Better yet, just go get this special.
Want another incentive for getting this special? How about the
artwork. Although I would have liked brighter colors, (the
colors didn’t quite suit the mood), overall the character
depictions and emotions worked out more than adequately.
Conclusion: Have a dollar then get this special.
If not, well, you aren’t missing much. Story: 2/5
Art: 3.5/5
Overall: 2.5/5
