In this issue, well, there’s a fight and as for
who is involved in it, how about everyone. Be it the good
spirits (from the dreams) or the bad ones (from the Jaff), or
even those from the living realm, everyone.
Having taken over the party and most of its guests, the Jaff
makes his move to whatever he has planned this time around. At
the same time, Jr. Death Boy Tommy-Ray is also on his way to
daddy dearest. Followed by a cloud of souls he makes a minor pit
stop at home to try to get his sister Jo-Beth. He knows that the
souls will destroy anything and everyone in their path,
including mamma and Jo. However, unable to find Jo at home, he
also loses mamma who unless shown otherwise (in the remaining
two issues) mamma and the house are gone for good.
As much as (or possibly more than) the story and characters it
is the artwork that had really drawn and held me to this series.
The duo of Gabriel Rodriguez and Jay Fotos’s visuals has just
the right amount of cartoonistic flair to go with the weirdness
of the Jaff (i.e. his creatures) and the hopefulness of the
dream spirits. I truly hope to see more of them in the future.
Conclusion: Although #10 of a 12 issue might be
too late (and in this case it certainly is), I give a thumbs up
to Clive Barker’s Great and Secret Show to anyone looking
to try it out. Take note that this might not be to everyone’s
tastes. RATING: 7.5/10
