EXCLAMATION: “That is some
amazing woodwork!”
EXPLANATION: Continuing the slash fest of the
first two issues, this part of the four issue Bump sees
yet more blood, gore and innards. The remaining survivors do
their best to, well, survive and even though all of them aren’t
left standing (i.e. alive) by the last page, most of them are.
As for the ‘dollies’ (created by Edgar Dill), they welcome a new
member into their ranks, the dead wife/mother from the family of
four who were amongst those who took shelter in the Dill’s
haunted house. Elsewhere, worried about her husband’s
whereabouts, Sheriff Gil’s wife intimates one of his (former)
colleagues. Look forward to seeing him (and more of the police)
next issue. As for the sheriff himself, he finally gets to the
Dill household and finds the remaining survivors.
EXAMINATION: This issue, just as the previous two
is more than just a gore-fest. Writer & Artist Mark Kidwell and
Colorist Jay Fotos have together created a story that is both
fast paced and deep. The characters, whether the good ones or
the bad, or even the ones who are just trying to stay alive,
they come across as real people and not just ciphers put in
place just for the heck of it. Sure, the clichés are clear as
day (even to the lay man), even more so when seen from a slasher-horror-genre
angle but rather than being a turn off they come across as
mildly boring (sometimes) and familiar.
PROCLAMATION: If the movie is done as well as the
story and with half as much verve and dedication it should make
for an interesting viewing…barring the over-the-top blood and
gore, mind you. RATING: 4/5
