In this (re-)recounting of the origins of the Ghost Who Walks, writer Mike Bullock takes the reader back to a specific ship one special night in the year 1531 AD. It is on that night in the night that the first Phantom was accompanying his father when the dreaded Kabai Singh attacked their ship.

As every or at least a majority of Phantom readers know, in the ensuing battle the unsuspecting travelers lost their ship and lives with the only (?) person making it out alive being the young man who was to go on to fight against crime. He would also be the first in a generation spanning family of crime-fighters right down to the current, twenty-first, Phantom. In fact, towards the end of this special issue there is a double page spread showing all of the Phantoms so far, right from the painted on costume of the first Phantom (with a quick recaps of sorts of his origin) to the current one (with his close family and friends around him). Maybe it’s just me but one of the Phantoms seemed like of the fairer sex. Counting across both pages it would put her (?) as Phantom #13.

To wrap things off there is a who’s who introduction to the main characters in the (current) Phantom mythos.

RATING: 8/10
