From the six titles I’ve read and reviewed (so far) this week,
only three of them have been worth the time and money I’ve spent on them, and
even out of those three, only one (Superman #651) is a new release. The other
two (Justice League Unlimited #20, Marvel Adventures: Spider-Man #14) are last
week’s releases.
As for this title, whatever little interest remained at the end of the previous
arc (which, is effectively the half way point of an 8 issue arc) is
finished…..dead, over, done and done. Whatever story the writer is trying to
tell, I don’t give a care anymore, one, due to the incredibly slow plot
advancement, two, its vague nature (reminds me of Wolverine’s just ended arc)
and three, as with many (almost all) other Marvel titles, it seems that they are
just stretching and biding their time until May i.e. until Civil War.
With the obligatory practice session in the (non-)Danger Room, with Emma and
Colossus coordinating the newbies, the angry young man in Elixir, the spoiled
brat in Hellion, and the (possible) rat in Jay, the only thing missing was
someone to walk the plank…take a bullet, literally. And for anyone who read the
last issue, it won’t come as a surprise as to who that was. Yup,
Wall-‘Pheromones’-flower is the latest addition to the increasingly long list of
characters who have been killed just for killing sake. The de-powered mutants
killed in US, Africa and all over the world, the missile on the bus, the various
suicides hinted or shown outright, the lynching….it is really sickening. Even
though the set will remain incomplete, I am seriously thinking about dropping
this title right now and not going in for the next two issue, the third and
fourth (last) parts of this arc.
I had really grown to like this title, if nothing else just to see new takes
i.e. new mutations. Now….now, I can’t stand it.
Conclusion: If only the story was even half as good as the
art…heck, even 30% as good would do the trick.
