I was really looking forward to this issue. Why? Just because
with this issue, this arc finishes, my set is complete and now I can look
forward to something worthwhile happening. I say ‘worthwhile’ because that is
the only way I can use this word for this issue…and from the looks of it, for
Wolverine’s new series ‘Origins’.
I want to say something, I am saying something, and I once I finish, you will
still be left scratching your head about what I just said. That is what I got
from this issue. Although I must say one thing (just in case it slipped your
mind), I absolutely loved the ‘New Avengers’ in this issue….an odd comment seeing that they
ONLY appeared on the cover. I mean, I get Captain America, the whole Bucky-Steve
link, but IronMan and Spider-Man. This seems to be the next step in Marvel’s
‘new genesis’. First they stop following or even trying to follow continuity,
and now even their covers and inside pages don’t match. What's next? Sabertooth
starring 'fulltime' in a 'Wolverine' series...as the main character!
As for the characters, the only person I feel sorry is for Mariko, cause (in my
eyes), introducing the hereto unknown and still not cared for wife, they are
trying to do the same with her what they did with Jean when they brought in
Rose. But while Rose was a character who seemed to truly care for James/Logan,
Itsu couldn’t be more one dimensional if she was just an ‘imaginary line’.
The villains, including Ol’Bucko are equally incompetent and clichéd. Bucky, the
great ‘Winter Soldier’ is supposed to be this hotshot secret
agent-cum-assassin-cum-what not, but this actions are anything but. I can’t stop
myself from comparing and lining him up with the returnee from the other comic
company, DC’s Jason Todd. They look the same, behave the same and are seemingly
being set up in a similar status…..and I couldn’t care less….for either of them.
When ‘Wolverine: Origins’ was announced I was really looking forward to it, but
now, not only am I thinking, but I am pretty sure that I won’t be buying it.
I’ll get the first issue….and read the first arc, but beyond that, if its more
of this dancing and beating around the bush, then I for one won’t be following
it. And this, seeing that Wolverine is one of my two favorite comic characters
is something very disheartening for me.
Conclusion: Origins and Endings. More like, no original ideas in this
ending.
