52, Week 12: Montoya’s self-umm…well, whatever she’s
doing, its getting rather long in the tooth. Kinda like Booster’s greed. (And
thank god that is over…for now). And despite her Oh-so-ballsy…nah, oh-so-titsy
showing from last week, all Batwoman got was a mere mention here. (And thank god
for that too). If anyone, this week belongs to Black (Teth) Adam and the newbie
he brings in, Isis. About Isis, I’ll say this, her origin might not be the most
original one but just going by first appearances, I am more interested in this
character than I was (or ever will be) in Ms. Bat-Boobs. And while on the topic
of boobs (and wotta nice ‘topic’ to be on), what in Hera’s name happened to
Wonder-whatshername Sandsmark. She went from being a moderate B to a large C
(maybe even a D) in the span of just one Crisis. Talk about genes. Them Amazons
sure have some lungs on ‘em, don’t they? Or maybe it was all that Super-Boning
she got in that forgettable Crisis-Tie-in Annual. Or (now this just too wrong),
maybe it was brother Ares’s thank you for getting him a place (in this realm) to
seat his godly butt on. Lastly, well, two points, Crazy Captain Marvel…almost as
good as Sane Captain Marvel, and twice as funny. And oh, just pass on the
‘Origin’ crap about Wonder Woman. If you thought ‘History of the DCU’ was bad,
you’ll rush back to that after subjecting yourself through this drivel.

Action Comics #841: Not as good as the ‘Anniversary’
story from the other super-title (Superman #654) but miles better than any of
the other reads this week. (Note that while writing this, I am still to read
this week’s 52. So don’t know how it will turn out). A lot of guest stars, a
look at the how ‘polito-militaristic’ (don’t know how else to term it) things
have gotten in the DCU and a rather impressive (not shocking) last page/panel.
Definitely looking forward to more…and if possible a little better/detailed
artwork.

Batman #655: Good art (though not great) but the story…I
am going to fall back on my plan to pass on this ‘Fruit of the womb of the fruit
of the Demon’s loins’ story. Well, sorry for the confusion….I won’t be picking
up any more of this ‘Son of Talia who is Daughter of Ra’s’ arc. I might get the
trade but I sincerely wish for this ‘beloved’ floozy and her squirt to fall into
the bottomless pits of character limbo. Already a barely bearable story (at
best), canonizing ‘Son of the Demon/Bat/Whatever’ is just NinjaBat-Overkill.

Birds of Prey #96: If you have had your fill of juggs
with 52 please spare a glance at the Birds to get your legs, thighs n’ hips.
That’s it. I ain’t saying anything else about this series. After last arc/issue
the only reason I am still shoveling my money and time into this is explained
with one simple reason. I want to see who has DC brought in to take a dump on
Cassandra Cain’s ‘Batgirl’ grave.
Rating: 5.5/10 (almost 6 for the legs)
Blue Beetle #5: Okay, what happened to the art? One issue
its clean, light and completely in keeping with a series about a new character
trying/hoping to find himself, and the next? What is this drivel? Looked like
someone ate a burrito and puked it all over the pages. As for the story, as with
the Oracle from last issue Phantom Stranger might as well have been
Just-Any-Stranger, that’s how much he mattered here. Its all Posse-Jaime-De Lama
here. I might as well have passed it.
Rating: 6/10
Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane #8: Mary Jane single.
And….umm, well that’s about it. Nothing else major happens here. Even the
artwork, which I have liked ever since issue #1 seemed to lag…almost as if it
was trying to keep ‘down’ with the lackluster story. And oh, it seems that Peter
n’ Gwen are an item now. No biggy there, for we all know, no matter what the
setting, no matter what the universe, sooner or later, poor li’l ol’ Gweny will
bite the dust.
