The Escapists #5: Things get confusing here. Starting with Denny in the lockup, the issue advances to Max and Case getting, well, on the case by pulling off yet costumed stunt, one that might end up blowing up in their faces, and ends with Denny getting beaten to a bloody pulp. In between, we have tons of flashbacks and even though initially it was a nice segue way to see the main story flow in and out of the pages of past issues of the Escapist, the novelty has worn off by now (for me at least). Instead of something of a ‘neon light’, these scenes take away rather than add to the read. On the plus side, the art along with being as fresh as ever (in the main story), is also definitive enough (in the comic/flashback scenes) to set up an atmosphere of mystery.

Conclusion: Even with the flashbacks interrupting the flow, I am certainly looking forward to next (last) issue.

RATING: 7/10
