52, Week #37: Two post-death returns, one from last
week’s ending itself and the second, well, for quite a few readers out there,
the Supernova reveal too wasn’t that big a surprise. Other than that and the
fight scenes that the Supernova outing entails, there wasn’t much going on here.
However, even with those two (mainly one) events, this week was more upbeat and
interesting than quite a few before it, especially in the last few weeks. Oh,
and that guest appearance by Green Arrow and co., that is only to show that they
are there and to tie in with events that have already occurred in the main
titles. As for the ‘Origin’, this time around it is Firestorm (Jason Rusch).
Conclusion: The last quarter is almost upon us and
its nice to see things pick up speed (and not get pushed back to when it is
almost too late).
RATING: 8.5/10
Lady Death: Lost Souls #2: Finally! It’s out, the second
issue of this mini, a major crossover of the premier Avatar characters, (War
Angel, Pandora, Unholy and of course, Lady Death and her companion, Satasha).
Three issues (including #0) and a year to get them all out and from that too,
more than ten months just for this one. I for one had all but given up on this
ever seeing the light of the day, even more so as other stories (Lady Death
vs. War Angel for one) have already dealt with the aftermath of certain
events from this one. As for the story itself, its one big fight scene, one with
a couple of break points thrown in (to have plot development), all ending up
with the good guys, well, gals winning, with some timely and direly needed help
from the Gatekeeper. One big negative is the different art team from the first
two issues.
Conclusion: All in all an acceptable but somewhat
lackluster enough ending to a promising series, in part of the obscenely long
delay which all but eradicated my interest in it.
RATING: 7/10
