Strangers in Paradise #88: In the aftermath of the last
issue’s explosive revelations everyone involved, well, to put is nicely – they
are not together anymore. Leave ‘together’; they are not even the same city.
Katchoo leaves for parts unknown taking David’s ashes with her. Francine, having
left her husband gets help from the one person who not only would know Katchoo’s
whereabouts but who has been doing so for years, (which has been one of the big
points of contention on more than one occasions, especially in last month’s
issue). The person in question is Mary Beth a.k.a. Tambi Baker and thanks to her
help Francine locates Katchoo and for a while it seems that the two of them will
finally get together. It seems but as with everything in their lives nothing
comes so easily to the two best-friends turned semi-lovers turned soul-mates.
That leaves Casey and in a way hers is the high-point of the issue, complete
with her own guardian angel. No, not Mary Beth again but someone who (at least)
Casey would have never expected…Freddie.
Conclusion: With two issues more to go before this series draws to
a close, one can’t help but get feelings of nostalgia and even loss…and the
continuing roller-coaster excellence of Terry Moore isn’t going to make the
‘separation’ any easier.
