Highlander #7: The second part of the ‘Dark Quickening’
arc (hope that’s its title), and Connor finally loses it. Already on edge he
gets the final nudge courtesy of another immortal looking to control the essence
of the Kurgan inside Connor. From what the ending of the issue implies he just
might have done it for Connor is just about to lead the attack on his own cousin
and best-friend (Duncan Macleod). Yeah, it’s all fine and dandy but didn’t the
Kurgan survive at the end of the first arc (issues #1-4)? Wouldn’t that mean
that Connor doesn’t have the so called ‘Dark Quickening’? I always thought that
to get an immortal’s Quickening the other immortal had to behead him/her. The
artwork is acceptable enough though rather mediocre in comparison to the
previous issues.
Conclusion: The build-up is good but the foundation (i.e. Kurgan’s
quickening) seems to be shaky.
RATING: 7/10
Plague of the Living Dead #1: Using the Plague of the
Living Dead Special from a few months back the first part of this six issue
mini does little to advance the story-plot. The Living Dead i.e. the Zombies
seen crowding around the house at the end of the PotLD Special make their
move and expected the results are quite unfavorable for the living. Elsewhere
too, the ‘battle fatigued’ soldiers are gathered and trucked away for some R&R.
It’s a safe bet that nothing good’s gonna come out on that side either. The
artwork, done by the same artist as on the Special (Dheeraj Verma) is good, and
yes, this series too has Andrew Dalhouse doing the colors…just like almost
everything from Avatar Press.
Conclusion: After the Double-Sized Special this issue goes by
rather quickly and comes across as a step down.
RATING: 6.5/10
