Crawl Space: XXXombies #1: A zombie tale with a
pornographic twist! That is the main premise of this mini-series and no, it
doesn’t mean that the zombies are out shooting porn movies with each other or
with humans, (okay, so the second one does happen but not of the zombie’s own
volition). Just like the recently ended Alien Pig Farm 3000, this series
too is more of parody on a horror genre/style. Just as with the aliens in
APF3000 the zombies in XXXombies aren’t as scary as they are funny, heck most of
the time it is they are who on the receiving end of an eat-down, well, in their
case make that a beat-down. The dialogues are chock full with porn humor
reflective of the time the story is set in, (the 70s), yet it manages to remain
in the realm of humor, at least from my p.o.v. As for any depth in the plot it
is given by the (possibly) budding romance between two characters with the
‘family’ angle been taken care by a trucker father out to get/save his
teenage/barely legal daughter.
Conclusion: Although clearly no literary classic in the making,
Crawl Space: XXXombies might just turn out to be okay-enough time-pass
read.

Special Forces #1: Enjoying this
read almost right from the get go I couldn’t help but feel that
the writer (Kyle Baker) had some hidden/ulterior/deep meaning
for this satirical look/take at the US war and occupation of
Iraq. Make no mistake; there is a definitive humorous edge
through and as with other war related stories, both past and
recent, e.g. Army@Love, it i.e. the humor, is of a darker
variety. However, unlike the aforementioned Army@Love the
war isn’t made fun of but has a much more realistic and sinister
presence. As for the hidden meaning that I mentioned at the
beginning, it comes right at the end of the story, (followed by
a couple of article excerpts related to it). Lastly, about the
main protagonist/narrator, at any other place she might have
come across as a proverbial square peg in a circular hole, but
not here. Still, the physical appearance with the itty-bitty
waist coupled on both sides by jumbo sized rounds (read: tits
and ass) and the glorified swimsuit-esque uniform isn’t quite
army issue. Thankfully, the dialogues and thought bubbles have a
more than enough pull to make up for all that skin display.
Conclusion: Here’s hoping that both Felony and
Zone make it out alive.
