GRIMM FAIRY TALES #34: Well, lets see, nice cover, kinda
average interior art, Belinda and a story that has a (at best) tenuous tie to
the original fairy tale that its supposed to retell/tie to, all in all this is
an okay enough read…on its merits. However, as a GFT retelling of “Puss in
Boots” this issue doesn’t even come close. Maybe its just me getting jaded but
the recent GFTs have been more misses than hits. And to makes things even more
confusing there is a ‘to be continued’ at the end.

GRIMM FAIRY TALES #35: Sporting the title “Dorian Gray”
this story has more to do with the “Picture of Dorian Gray” than its first part
had to do with the story it was named after. I say first part because this issue
of GFT continues the story that was started in GF #34. Both the present and past
retelling (of the real Dorian Gray) are told well, although the female
paramour/interest angle in flashback story doesn’t quite gel with the rest of
the story. Still, good read nevertheless. (7.5/10)
GRIMM FAIRY TALES: GIANT SIZE #1: What if Beinda was Red
Sonja? That was my initial reaction both after seeing the cover to this special
and after reading it. The hair and the costume stylings apart I’ve read a story
or two starring the redhead chain-bikini clad warrior of which this story
reminded me of. Nevertheless, although it has elements from those stories it
brings them all together in a tight, (most) smooth flowing tale. This is one of
the few Belinda starring Grimm Fairy Tales stories that I’ve liked.
