Hoo-boy, do these people talk, or what! Now, I am not saying
that the dialogues/conversation pieces here are anymore than any other issue of
this series but that overall by itself, this is one talkative title. Just about
every character has some set in cement opinions and they are not afraid of
voicing them. Even though it does get a bit heavy (occasionally), it all works
out at the end of the day…as it did by the end of this issue and its doozy of a
revelation. Still, with those superhero clones romping about in DC, and that
Clor fella killing around in Marvel, (on a comedic level) it does feel that
there was an industry wide memo to increase more clone-play in just about every
comic genre out there.
Once we get past the usual opening flashback (this time with a young Allison and
the aforementioned and seen, Dr. Ming), its back to the present with an adult
Allison bleeding and writhing all over the floor. With 355 holding a gun to
Rose’s face, it is up to Yorick and the new lovers (Ampersand and Bonny) to go
into *apespit crazy panicking* mode. After the usual volley of threats and
claims, the Y-People get off their behinds, literally racing against time to get
Allison the life-saving help she needs.
After a mildly filler of a scene with the Israeli army and a P.R. release of a
speech about how having the last man on earth with/under their thumb will get
that country (and its people) a leg up on the others, its back to the said man
and his panicking monkeys. Having ‘commandeered’ transportation, an ambulance no
less, the group, with 355 on the wheel are making their way to those who can
save the teetering on death, Dr. Mann…her mother and/or Dr. Ming.
Well, that is the plan anyways, until, waking up hours later (after having been
‘captured’), the group, or rather Yorick and Allison (thankfully still alive),
get a two-in-one shock that goes right down to the bedpans of the beds they are
tied to (well, the one Yorick is tied to. Allison is free). As for the shock,
for Yorick it is the revelation that he is not the only man…correction, only
‘adult’ man alive (after all, there is baby Vladimir too). It is for Allison
that the revelation is truly life altering. Without going into full and clearly
stated revelation mode here, I’ll just say that it can be said for certain that
Allison lost the ‘clone war’ she had going on with her father…multiple times
over, eight times to be exact. Conclusion: It takes
some time and concentration to get through this issue in one sitting (with full
attention intact), but as with just about every other time out of the 50 times
its come out, Y The Last Man is deserving of every single second spent on it. RATING:
9/10
