An enlarged quickie, that is all I am sparing for this issue,
not because it was bad but because I was way too late getting to it, especially
with the next issue coming out today.
Anyways, the first issue of a new series, the third of the whole swords and
sorcery brigade let out by Wildstorm Productions (others being Skye Runner and
Rokkin), Claw The Unconquered, as with its two counterparts, not only gives a
solid introduction to the main character, Valcan Scaramax or Claw if you will,
it also sets the arc rolling along. The Claw in Valcan’s name is all because of
a his right hand which is literally just that, a claw, one which has tried to
sever in the past (to get rid of it), only to have it grow back.
Also introduced are the Evil Witch of the West (or East, North or whichever
direction she hails from), Satarina, who appearance brings in not one but three
companions for our hero, namely, Mardak, Vivardi and Haxa. Also introduced is
someone…something else, one which is sure to play an important part in the
upcoming issues if not the whole series. Conclusion:
Unlike the beautiful Skye Runner or the colorful Rokkin, the artwork here has a
mature feeling (not to say either of them is campy). RATING: 8/10
