Continuing with the three issue plot started
last month, this installment of Freddie and his pals sees
the latest bunch of future victims make a play to not only
escape from the clutches of deadly (literally) nightmares but
also try and do away with Ol’ Freddie once and for all. Having
decided to summon the Aztec sleep demon Nanuaquez (last ish.)
the four friends get about putting their plan into action.
Not only do they make the appropriate arrangements at home, each
telling their parent (in whichever suits them), Blaine, the one
who put for the idea in the first place also makes arrangements
for one major ‘contribution’ towards the summoning, that being
the human sacrifice. As for the demon himself, not only does he
come he even get to the business at hand – fighting Freddy.
However, with one more issue to go in this fast paced
action-n’-mystery filled story, there is a lot that could happen
and most definitely will.
What makes this story all the more eerie is the artwork and the
fresh and innocence the creative team of Kevin West, Bob Almond
and WSFX bring to the characters (even Blaine). So much so that
when they do what they do to one of their own, the effect is all
the more pronounced. As for the sleep demon himself, I can’t
help but think of the characters from Guy Ritchie starring movie
‘Time Machine’.
Conclusion: As much as I still miss Chuck Dixon on
Nightwing I am more than enjoying him on this series and
hope that he stays on for a long time. Same goes for the
art-creative team, although given the track-record of ANoES
there will a new one with the next arc. RATING: 8/10
